A savory no-knead yeast bread flavored with cottage cheese, dill, and onion.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1/4 tsp soda
- 1/4 c warm water
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp onion salt
- 1 tsp minced onion
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 1/2 tsp dill weed
Steps
- Heat cheese to lukewarm, stirring frequently.
- Combine yeast with water in a large mixing bowl and stir to dissolve.
- Stir in cheese, egg, sugar, onion, oil and seasonings.
- Stir soda into flour and gradually add to batter, stirring constantly.
- Knead in the mixing bowl until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in bulk.
- Punch down dough.
- Place in a greased bread pan, cover and let rise 30-45 minutes.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes, until sides are browned.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Brush with either melted butter or lightly beaten egg white, and sprinkle lightly with onion salt.
