A savory no-knead yeast bread flavored with cottage cheese, dill, and onion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 tsp soda
  • 1/4 c warm water
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp onion salt
  • 1 tsp minced onion
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 tsp dill weed

Steps

  1. Heat cheese to lukewarm, stirring frequently.
  2. Combine yeast with water in a large mixing bowl and stir to dissolve.
  3. Stir in cheese, egg, sugar, onion, oil and seasonings.
  4. Stir soda into flour and gradually add to batter, stirring constantly.
  5. Knead in the mixing bowl until smooth.
  6. Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in bulk.
  7. Punch down dough.
  8. Place in a greased bread pan, cover and let rise 30-45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes, until sides are browned.
  10. Cool on wire rack.
  11. Brush with either melted butter or lightly beaten egg white, and sprinkle lightly with onion salt.
