Sweet yeast rolls shaped into bow knots with orange juice and zest.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tsp grated orange peel
  • 5 cups flour (approx.)

Frosting:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp orange peel
  • Orange juice (enough for a thick frosting)

Steps

  1. Dissolve yeast in the warm water.
  2. Combine in saucepan: milk, sugar, margarine and salt.
  3. Heat until margarine has melted. Let cool to lukewarm.
  4. Beat eggs well in large bowl.
  5. Add yeast and milk mixture to eggs and orange juice.
  6. Add 2 cups flour and beat with mixer on high speed (2 min).
  7. Stir in enough of the flour to make a soft dough.
  8. Grease sides of bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size. You can refrigerate and finish the next day.
  9. Roll and tie into knots and place on greased cookie sheet.
  10. Let rise until doubled.
  11. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
  12. Combine powdered sugar, orange peel and enough orange juice for a thick frosting.
  13. Frost rolls while warm out of the oven.

Notes

  • Frosting may be refrigerated.
