Italian chocolate cookies with a chocolate glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Crisco
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 5 cups flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 rounded tsp baking powder
- 16 oz. chocolate syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Icing:
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1 tsp anise or lemon extract
- 1 lb box of powdered sugar
Steps
- Cream Crisco, margarine, and sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs and syrup.
- Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves.
- Combine both mixtures until mixed thoroughly.
- Add nuts.
- Chill.
- Roll into small balls and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Combine milk and extract in large bowl.
- Add sugar.
- Whisk until all lumps are dissolved and the glaze is smooth.
- As soon as cookies are removed from the oven, quickly immerse two or three at a time into the glaze.
- Remove with slotted spoon.
- Place cookies on wire racks to drain.
- Let dry 12 hours before storing.
