Italian chocolate cookies with a chocolate glaze.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 5 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 rounded tsp baking powder
  • 16 oz. chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Icing:

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tsp anise or lemon extract
  • 1 lb box of powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Cream Crisco, margarine, and sugar until creamy.
  2. Add eggs and syrup.
  3. Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves.
  4. Combine both mixtures until mixed thoroughly.
  5. Add nuts.
  6. Chill.
  7. Roll into small balls and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Combine milk and extract in large bowl.
  9. Add sugar.
  10. Whisk until all lumps are dissolved and the glaze is smooth.
  11. As soon as cookies are removed from the oven, quickly immerse two or three at a time into the glaze.
  12. Remove with slotted spoon.
  13. Place cookies on wire racks to drain.
  14. Let dry 12 hours before storing.
