Fried pastry dusted with powdered sugar — a Skalka and Karmazin family recipe. Light, crispy, and perfect with coffee.
Ingredients
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 2 Tbsp wine or rum
- 2-3 cups flour
- Salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Oil for deep frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Steps
- Mix together wet ingredients.
- Add dry ingredients with enough flour to make a firm noodle-like dough.
- Knead on a floured surface till nice and smooth.
- Roll out thin as for noodles.
- Cut into diamond or square shapes. Make a few holes with a thimble in each piece.
- Place on a cloth to dry some.
- Heat oil in deep fryer to 350°F.
- Fry until browned. Remove to drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still warm.
