A big, tender vanilla cake made with shortening — baked every Saturday.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 6 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Steps

  1. Cream shortening with sugar till light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla and combine well.
  3. Add dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) alternating with milk.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Pour into a greased and floured cake pan and bake 375 degrees for 40 min till toothpick comes out dry.
